Zhangjiajie

At the start of April I had a week-long holiday from school for Qing Ming Festival/Tomb-Sweeping Day. This is a holiday dedicated to honoring ancestors in China and other South Asian countries. Me and my friend Ilia took advantage of the national holiday to visit China’s largest and oldest national park – Zhangjiajie! I was thrilled that Ilia shared my enthusiasm for reaching the mountains by way of a 20 hour overnight train ride. We spent a few days hiking in the park and were stunned by the surreal landscape. In fact, the pillars of rock that the park is famous for served as inspiration for the floating mountains in the Avatar movie. Click below for my photo album from the trip!
